TAKE ACTION - ARCHIVE
Did you know that a little known provision in the Real ID Act is threatening refugee admissions to this country, and therefore the healing of any refugees that have endured torture? It is a legislative provision called "material support," and basically states that any material assistance provided to a group that is fighting against a duly constituted government may result in a bar to admission to the United States on the grounds of potential terrorist ties. Unfortunately, there has been no guidance from Homeland Security on the proper interpretation of this provision, and consequently groups like ethnic minorities in Burma, fighting one of the worst dictatorships in the world (S.L.O.R.C.) or people caught between the guerillas (F.A.R.C.) and the military forces in Colombia, are being barred from admission!
Please see the link below, from the Refugee Council USA, for action steps you can take to reverse this process and protect refugee admissions!
